Upgrade an older AM4 PC (Ryzen 1000 to 3000 series)

- Keep 16 GB RAM: this matches both official tiers.
Older Intel PC (8th to 10th gen Core i5 / i7)

- CPU: the minimum spec is a Core i5 8600. To reach the recommended i7-12700K level you need a new platform, so see the next build.
New 1080p / 1440p build that meets the recommended specs
- AMD Ryzen 5 7600X (or Ryzen 5 9600X): Both score above the recommended Core i7-12700K in Tom’s Hardware’s 1080p gaming CPU ranking, on the current AM5 platform. Check current price: ScanOverclockers UKAmazon UK

- 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) or 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5: 16 GB meets the official spec. 32 GB is our suggestion for headroom if you run Discord or a browser alongside the game. Check current price: ScanOverclockers UKAmazon UK

- Power supply: follow your graphics card maker’s recommended wattage. Windows 11 is the recommended OS.
1440p high refresh

On a tighter budget?
Cards such as the Intel Arc B580, RTX 5050 and RX 7600 rank below the recommended GPUs in the same hierarchy. The official minimum (GTX 1660 / RX 590) isn't in Tom's current table, so we can't rank it like-for-like. Pair a card like these with the settings on our best settings page, aiming at the official minimum target of 1080p Low with upscaling. Real results from these cards would help everyone: submit yours.
